‘Swamp People’ Star Junior Edwards Passes Away — Castmates Honor His Legacy
Junior Edwards, one of the original stars of Swamp People, has died, and his family and former castmates are remembering him with love and sadness. His passing was shared by several loved ones on Saturday, July 26, although no official cause of death or exact age has been shared yet.
Earlier this month, Junior’s grandson, ‘Lil’ Willie Edwards, had mentioned on social media that Junior wasn’t doing well. In a heartfelt post on Facebook after Junior’s passing, Willie wrote, “Rest easy pawpaw…. I know you’re probably running your hoop nets or doing something crazy inside those pearly gates… you will be extremely missed pawpaw we love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again.”
Junior was known by many fans of the History Channel series as a tough and experienced alligator hunter. He was part of Swamp People for six seasons and even made a surprise return in Season 12 in 2021. The show follows hunters in Louisiana as they take on the risky job of catching wild alligators in the swamps.
Ashley “Deadeye” Jones, another former cast member, shared the news on Instagram and called Junior a true legend. She said, “Mr Junior Edwards passed away. Please be in prayer for the family! He was one of the greatest alligator hunters there is! He was real hardcore outdoorsman! I watched this man bring in MONSTER gators at Duffy’s Gas Station in Pierre Part LA. This was after a looooong day for both of us and you can tell it!”
Fans quickly filled the comments with their condolences and shared memories of Junior on the show. One person wrote, “I hope the show honors the legendary Mr Edwards forever loved & missed rip,” while another added, “That’s very very sad….. sending prayers.”
Ronnie Adams, also part of the Swamp People cast, shared a message on Instagram asking everyone to keep the Edwards family in their thoughts. “Praying for the Edwards in this time of need!!! Rest in peace Junior,” he said.
Back on July 6, ‘Lil’ Willie had posted an emotional message letting fans know that his grandfather was going through some health problems. He asked for prayers, writing, “Well guys, those of you that don’t know … my grandpa has been dealing with some health issues. Y’all keep him in y’all’s thoughts and prayers please… we need a miracle. Get better for us papa, we love you!!!”
Junior Edwards was more than just a television personality, he was a part of a Louisiana tradition, a man who lived the swamp life for real. His friends, family, and fans are now mourning a man they admired deeply, both on and off the screen.
