Marvel Studios has officially brought the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it’s already breaking records at the box office.

The film, which introduces Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, is the team’s first proper appearance in the MCU—and it’s just the beginning.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about the movie, its connection to the future of the MCU, and what fans can expect from the upcoming crossover film Avengers: Doomsday. One key detail he shared was that the Baxter Building, the Fantastic Four’s home base, will have a much bigger role going forward.

Feige explained that the building, which was only used by the core four characters in First Steps, becomes a lot more crowded in Doomsday. “Let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the Fantastic Four movie,” he said. “And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it in Doomsday.”

The idea of heroes from different corners of the MCU coming together inside the Baxter Building is something Feige is clearly excited about. “The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” he said. “In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes.”

Feige also mentioned how meaningful it was to see the building come to life during production of First Steps. He especially loved how human and lived-in the set felt, even though it belonged to superheroes. “Walking into the Baxter Building for the first time was exciting,” he said.

“Particularly Reed and Sue’s living area… It’s a reminder that they are not just Super Heroes. They’re not just astronauts. They’re not just gigantic celebrities. They’re a couple, and they have a bathroom, and they get ready to go to bed at night, which is as human as it gets.”

Now, with Avengers: Doomsday in production and set to bring together the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, the Baxter Building is becoming more than just a backdrop. It’s turning into a central location where major MCU characters will meet and interact.

Feige didn’t reveal too many plot details about Doomsday, but his comments hint that the Baxter Building will act as a kind of hub for this massive crossover event. It’s the first time we’ll see these major teams fully share the screen, and the same space, on this scale.
