Zach Galligan, who starred in the original Gremlins movies, just shared some exciting news about Gremlins 3. According to him, the script is done, and Warner Bros. is very interested in making the movie. The only thing holding it back is that Steven Spielberg still needs to read the script and give his approval before filming can start.

Galligan revealed this update in a video posted by @comicmoviedb on TikTok. He said, “They’ve come up with a script. Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it. Apparently, it’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and improve it, but, you can thank the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” This sounds like a big step forward for fans who have been waiting years to see the third film.

The Gremlins franchise is famous for mixing comedy and horror in a unique way. The first movie came out in 1984 and was directed by Joe Dante with a script by Chris Columbus. Even though it was criticized for some violent scenes, it became a huge hit and even helped create the PG-13 rating system. Its success led to a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, which came out in 1990.

Now, the series looks ready to return. Previous reports claimed that Gremlins 3 is officially in development. Warner Bros. seems eager to bring back old favorites as part of a larger plan to revive popular franchises, just like they’ve done with Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, and The Goonies.

Details about the new Gremlins movie are still scarce. It’s not clear if it will be a sequel, reboot, or something else. But the fact that Chris Columbus is involved again hints that it could keep the same style and feel as the original movies. This would be a great way to please longtime fans and attract new viewers.

Back in 2016, Galligan mentioned that Warner Bros., Columbus, and Spielberg were all interested in making Gremlins 3. At that time, Carl Ellsworth was writing the script. Then in 2017, Columbus said he had written a darker, more twisted story that even questioned whether Gizmo should survive. By 2020, Columbus confirmed they wanted to use real puppets and animatronics for the gremlins instead of CGI, but it’s not clear if that plan is still in place.

Warner Bros. has been actively protecting the Gremlins brand too. In 2019, they secured the trademark for the franchise. That same year, WarnerMedia launched an animated prequel series called Secrets of the Mogwai on their Max streaming service. The show has been a success and was renewed for a second season titled The Wild Batch, which premiered in October 2024.

So, while fans wait for more official news, it looks like Gremlins 3 is closer than ever to becoming a reality. The last big step is getting Steven Spielberg’s okay on the script. Once that happens, filming could start soon.
