Marvel Studios is getting ready to cast a new “X-Men” movie, and they’re looking for fresh, young talent instead of big-name stars.

The goal is to keep the budget lower while bringing new energy to the franchise. Jake Schreier, who directed “Thunderbolts*,” is set to lead the project, and Michael Lesslie is writing the script.

The casting process will start soon according to reports, and Marvel is open to a wide range of actors.

According to a source close to the casting, the studio wants younger actors rather than A-listers “to keep the cost down.” Marvel has a movie date set for July 23, 2027, but insiders say it won’t be the “X-Men” film. Marvel did not comment on this when asked.

People on Wall Street are watching Marvel closely as the company brings together its new lineup, including popular properties from 20th Century Fox like “Fantastic Four,” “X-Men,” and last year’s hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which made $1.34 billion worldwide.

Back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said mutants like the X-Men would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually.

He also explained that the MCU’s version of the mutants would be different from the previous X-Men movies made by Fox. By late 2023, Marvel was already planning to meet with writers about an X-Men movie. Michael Lesslie was brought in to write the script in 2024, and Jake Schreier was chosen to direct after positive feedback on “Thunderbolts*.”

Feige has mentioned that after bringing back some actors from the old Fox X-Men films for the Multiverse Saga, this new movie will feature a completely new, younger cast.

He described it as “a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.” This comes after Marvel’s Secret Wars event reset the MCU timeline, giving the studio a chance to reboot the X-Men team with fresh faces.

This new direction shows Marvel’s plan to build the X-Men into a key part of the MCU without relying on established stars, aiming to create a new generation of heroes for fans to connect with.
