‘Watson’ Season 2 Casts Its Sherlock Holmes
Robert Carlyle is joining the cast of “Watson” Season 2 as Sherlock Holmes, Variety reports. He will appear in a recurring guest role alongside Morris Chestnut, who plays Dr. John Watson.
Other new cast members include Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann, and Rochelle Aytes. Previously, Randall Park appeared in the series as Holmes’ enemy, Professor James Moriarty.
Carlyle becomes the second actor to play Sherlock Holmes on CBS recently, following Johnny Lee Miller, who starred in “Elementary” for seven seasons.
Craig Sweeny, the showrunner of “Watson,” expressed his excitement about Carlyle joining the show. He said, “We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of ‘Watson’ in Season 2. The man has played iconic roles in projects like ‘Trainspotting,’ ‘The Full Monty,’ and ’28 Weeks Later’… and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes. When Watson’s best friend and former partner makes a shocking reappearance in his life, Watson is forced to confront their shared past—and a secret that may lie buried within Watson’s own body.”
The show “Watson” was renewed for a second season in March. It follows Dr. Watson as he opens a clinic focused on rare and unusual medical cases, following the supposed death of Sherlock Holmes.
The official description for Season 2 says, “With his eyes fixed on the future, Watson faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past—one that lies hidden within his own body.”
Season 2 will premiere on October 13 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Paramount+. Executive producers on the show include Craig Sweeny, Morris Chestnut, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz. CBS Studios produces the series.
