Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has been one of the biggest box office hits of the year, and now it’s finally coming to Disney+. After making over one billion dollars worldwide this summer, the film will arrive on the streaming service on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Deadline reports that this marks a huge 124-day gap between its theatrical release and streaming debut, as the movie first hit theaters on May 23.

The movie, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, is a reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic Lilo & Stitch. It mixes live-action and animation and even pulls in moments from the original’s sequels and TV spinoffs.

Maia Kealoha makes her big-screen debut as Lilo Pelekai, while Chris Sanders returns to voice Stitch, just like he did in the animated version. The cast also features Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis, along with original cast members Amy Hill, Tia Carrere, and Jason Scott Lee in new roles.

The journey to bring this version of Lilo & Stitch to life started back in 2018, with different writers and directors attached over the years. Fleischer Camp eventually took the director’s chair, with Chris Kekaniokalani Bright writing the script. Filming took place in 2023 and early 2024, with Dan Romer creating the score and Industrial Light & Magic handling the visual effects.

The film premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on May 17, 2025, before its wide release on May 23. While critics gave it a mix of positive and lukewarm reviews, audiences embraced it. CinemaScore audiences gave it an “A,” matching the animated original.

PostTrak reported that 90% of viewers gave it a thumbs-up, with 81% saying they’d recommend it. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 72% approval rating from critics. The site’s consensus reads, “Recapturing the adorable charm of the original if not quite matching its rambunctious sense of imagination, Lilo & Stitch emerges out of the crate as one of the better live-action remakes of a Disney classic.”

At the box office, Lilo & Stitch made history. It became the second-highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far and the most successful live-action/animated hybrid ever, earning $1.025 billion globally. Fandango said it even broke records for PG-rated pre-sales this year, beating out titles like A Minecraft Movie and Snow White.

With a sequel already in the works and a Disney+ debut just around the corner, the ohana will soon be bringing their adventures to living rooms everywhere.
