Sony Pictures Animation is working on a brand-new animated movie all about Spider-Punk. Deadline says the film is still in the very early stages, but it’s coming from Daniel Kaluuya, who you might know from Judas and the Black Messiah, and writer Ajon Singh, who worked on Primetime. The two are writing it together.

Right now, there’s no story revealed, no release date, and no other names attached. But since Kaluuya voiced Spider-Punk in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and will return for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it’s easy to guess he’ll probably voice him again for this movie.

Spider-Punk, whose real name is Hobart Brown, isn’t your typical friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

He’s from a different universe known as Earth-138. Instead of swinging around to stop random crooks, Hobie is all about fighting back against corrupt governments and greedy corporations.

He’s got a mohawk, wears leather, plays guitar, and basically lives the punk rock life while taking down the bad guys. The character first appeared in the comics in 2015 in The Amazing Spider-Man #10, created by writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel.

Kaluuya’s take on Spider-Punk in Across the Spider-Verse became a standout part of the movie, with his cool, rebellious style and laid-back humor. That movie was the second in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy, which started with Into the Spider-Verse. The first film made over $394 million worldwide and even won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Across the Spider-Verse did even better, making over $690 million and getting another Oscar nomination. The final film in the trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to hit theaters on June 25, 2027.

Meanwhile, Sony has been busy with its Spider-Man world. Before this new Spider-Punk movie gets going, the studio will release Brand New Day, the next live-action Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, on July 31, 2026. Sony is also making a live-action Spider-Noir series for MGM+, starring Nicolas Cage, which should arrive next year.

So far, there’s no word on when we’ll see Spider-Punk rock the screen again in his own adventure. But with Daniel Kaluuya and Ajon Singh leading the charge, fans can expect a wild, rebellious spin on the Spider-Man legend.

The news was first reported by Deadline.
