A video of Sydney Sweeney showing off her shooting skills at a gun range has gone viral again after news broke that she is a registered Republican. This came amid controversy over her recent American Eagle ad.
The sudden popularity of the old video came after Taran Tactical Innovations, a firearms seller, reshared the clip on their Instagram profile, along with her controversial American Eagle commercial. Under both videos, there were many compliments for Sweeney.
The 27-year-old actress, known for her role in HBO’s “Euphoria,” faced criticism online after some people claimed her July ad had strange eugenics vibes. The ad focused a lot on her figure, especially her chest, which added to the backlash.
Public voter records from Monroe County, Florida revealed that Sweeney registered as a Republican in June 2024. This news added fuel to the fire.
Now, a clip from 2019 resurfaced showing Sydney at a shooting range preparing for a movie role. In the video, she confidently hits several dummy targets in just seconds, barely reacting to the powerful recoil of the gun.
Sweeney hasn’t said much about the ad controversy, but she did appear at a screening for her new film “Americana” on Monday. At the event, a fan yelled at her, telling her to “Stop the ad, that is being racist!” according to TMZ.
President Donald Trump weighed in on the situation after learning about Sweeney’s political ties. He praised her ad, saying, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
Trump took to TruthSocial to add more, also taking a swipe at singer Taylor Swift, who supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. He wrote, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!”
