‘The Acolyte’s’ Manny Jacinto Eyes Qimir Comeback in Star Wars: “If Fans Want It, I’m In”
Star Wars: The Acolyte had a rough run. After just eight episodes, Disney pulled the plug on the show, and most fans didn’t find the news all that shocking. It was an expensive project, but many felt it didn’t deliver the quality to match the budget. Complaints about poor writing, strange pacing, weak acting, and plot holes were common throughout the show’s run.
Still, there was one thing that stood out to a lot of people, the character Qimir.
Qimir started off as a strange but likable side character, pretending to be just Mae’s goofy friend. But from early on, it was pretty clear he was hiding something big. Fans quickly picked up on the fact that he was the Sith in training, secretly guiding her.
When the truth finally came out, Qimir didn’t disappoint. He turned out to be ruthless, especially in the scene where he took out most of the Jedi on Khofar. He also used a new weapon fans hadn’t seen in live action before, and his helmet, made from Cortosis, was a cool nod to older Star Wars lore.
What really got fans buzzing was the hint in the final episode that Qimir might have been trained by Darth Plagueis, the Sith master who taught Emperor Palpatine. That tease alone had many hoping for a second season.
Even though the show’s been canceled, the actor who played Qimir, Manny Jacinto, is open to coming back if fans want it. In an interview with ComicBook while promoting Freakier Friday, Jacinto said he’d jump at the chance to return.
“I would love to,” he said. “I would love to run it back. I love that character, that franchise, that team.”
He added, “We’ll put it out there. Star Wars is a big universe, galaxy, what have you. But if the fans want it, I’m down and ready to go.”
While The Acolyte isn’t likely to return on screen anytime soon, the story has been continued in a few related novels. Whether or not Jacinto’s Qimir appears again, fans can still hope for more stories from that dark corner of the galaxy.
