Zendaya is officially back in the Spider-Man universe, and fans are thrilled. Photos from justbuzz.exe on TikTok gave everyone a first look at her on set with Tom Holland for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The scene was filmed in London, and it’s already got people talking.

The movie is the fourth in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series and picks up after No Way Home (2021). It’s part of Phase Six in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is scheduled to come out in the U.S. on July 31, 2026. Zendaya returns as MJ, but it wasn’t always a sure thing.

Last year, there was a lot of confusion about whether she’d even be in the film. In November 2024, Zendaya had started working on The Odyssey with Holland, and that made things tricky.

Reporter Jeff Sneider shared that filming for Brand New Day could be delayed to late 2025 or even 2026. He said Sony didn’t want to release it in the same year as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was being planned for 2026 at the time. That animated movie has since moved to 2027, which cleared the way for Brand New Day to stick with its original date.

In December, Sneider reported that Zendaya’s role had been “severely reduced” because of her packed schedule. She was expected to film from June to October 2025, squeezed in between Euphoria season 3 and Dune: Part Three. So even though she’s back, it’s not clear how big her part will be.

Still, her return was confirmed in June, along with Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned. Zendaya hasn’t made any public comments about the film yet, but her appearance on set was enough to calm fans’ worries.

Filming officially began on August 3 in Glasgow, Scotland. The crew is shooting scenes in the city center—including George Square and Merchant City, which will stand in for New York. The working title for the project is Blue Oasis. Director Destin Daniel Cretton is in charge, and Brett Pawlak is back as cinematographer, continuing his work with Cretton from previous films.

Tom Holland said he was excited to be filming on real streets again. He shared that No Way Home had to be shot on soundstages because of COVID, so this time felt more like the early days of Homecoming. “It feels like we’re back to where it all started,” he said.

Some cool details have already popped up from the Glasgow shoot. Set photos showed armored vehicles with a red demon logo. According to reports, the symbol looks a lot like the one used by the Inner Demons gang in the comics. That gang is led by Mister Negative, so there’s speculation that he might be one of the villains in the movie.

The movie is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who also worked on the last Spider-Man films. The full cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando. It’s a big lineup, but right now, all eyes are on Zendaya.

Even if her role is smaller this time, just having her back as MJ brings a sense of continuity to the story, and to fans, it feels like a major piece of the puzzle is back in place.
