A brand-new comedy series called The Paper is coming soon to Peacock, and it’s already getting people talking, especially fans of The Office. Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the show is set in the same universe as The Office and is confirmed to be a spinoff but follows a totally new group of people, this time in a newspaper office instead of a paper company. And yes, the trailer is finally out.

The Paper is a mockumentary sitcom, just like The Office, and takes place in Toledo, Ohio. This time, the documentary crew is focusing on a struggling local newspaper called The Truth Teller. The paper is trying to make a comeback with the help of volunteer reporters. Things don’t go exactly smoothly, of course, and that’s where the comedy comes in.

The show stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, who lead a pretty big and funny cast. Other cast members include Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill. Recurring actors include Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts.

One big surprise for longtime fans is that Oscar Nuñez is returning as Oscar Martinez from The Office. His role connects the two shows and brings back a familiar face. His return was confirmed in February 2025.

Greg Daniels, who helped make The Office a hit in the U.S., first started working on this follow-up in early 2024. The idea was to explore a new workplace with new characters but keep it in the same world.

In March 2024, it was announced that he would co-create the show with Michael Koman. Then in May, Peacock officially ordered the series, and filming began in July. The show’s name, The Paper, was revealed in June 2024.

Daniels and Koman are also executive producing the show along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the original creators of the UK version of The Office—plus Howard Klein and Ben Silverman. It’s produced by Universal Television.

The show is set to premiere on Peacock on September 4, 2025. The trailer just dropped and gives fans a sneak peek at what to expect, awkward moments, dry humor, and a whole lot of chaos inside a dying newspaper office.

Whether you loved The Office or just enjoy smart, funny shows about people trying (and often failing) to work together, The Paper might be your next favorite binge. New poster has also been revealed:
