Dean Cain, best known for playing Superman in the 1990s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, is about to become an honorary agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This news came from Tricia McLaughlin, the spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, who said Cain will be sworn in as an “honorary ICE Officer” sometime next month. What exactly Cain’s role will involve as an honorary agent isn’t clear yet.

Cain recently talked about this in an interview with Fox News. He said he has already spoken to officials at ICE and is ready to start his new position quickly. Cain, who is 59 years old, also mentioned that he’s a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer. He told Fox News, “I put out a recruitment video yesterday – I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer – I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy.”

Cain posted a video on his social media encouraging others to join ICE. He said, “I’m stepping up. Hopefully, a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents, will step up and we’ll meet those recruitment goals immediately, and we’ll help protect this country.”

This comes as the Department of Homeland Security announced it is removing age limits for new ICE hires. The agency is looking to hire thousands more people after Congress gave it extra money.

Cain’s decision to join comes at a time when ICE has been increasing its immigration enforcement efforts, which has caused protests and legal battles in many parts of the country.

When Cain was asked why he wanted to serve, he said, “This country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing.” He also talked about the immigration system, saying, “We have a broken immigration system. Congress needs to fix it, but in the interim, President Trump ran on this. He is delivering on this. This is what people voted for. It’s what I voted for, and he’s going to see it through, and I’ll do my part and help make sure it happens.”

Dean Cain’s political views have shifted over the years. While he is now a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, having endorsed him in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections, Cain’s past voting record shows a mix of choices.

He once voted for Bill Clinton twice and for Al Gore in 2000, which he later said he regretted. He supported John McCain in 2008 and Rick Perry in 2012. Cain also said he was once a registered Republican but later became an Independent because he felt the Republican Party didn’t fully represent his views.

Cain’s connection to law enforcement isn’t new. Besides being a reserve police officer and deputy sheriff, he was elected to the board of directors for the National Rifle Association in 2018, showing his continued interest in public safety and conservative causes.

Tricia McLaughlin, the Homeland Security spokesperson, made a fun comment connecting Cain’s famous role to his new job. She said, “Superman is encouraging Americans to become real-life superheroes.”

While the exact duties Cain will have as an honorary ICE officer remain unknown, his decision to join the agency shows his support for its mission and the current administration’s immigration policies.
