2025’s Second-Biggest Horror Hit Is Officially Getting a Sequel
Final Destination: Bloodlines turned out to be one of 2025’s biggest horror surprises, and now New Line Cinema is wasting no time in planning the next chapter. The studio, which is part of Warner Bros., has officially hired Bloodlines co-writer Lori Evans Taylor to write the follow-up.
The sixth film in the long-running supernatural horror series was directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, with a script by Taylor and Guy Busick. The story was based on an idea from Taylor, Busick, and Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts, who was also creatively involved in the production.
In Bloodlines, Kaitlyn Santa Juana plays Stefani, a college student who inherits disturbing visions from her dying grandmother. These visions are connected to a past event, the prevention of a deadly skyscraper collapse in 1969, and come with a chilling warning: Death is now coming for their family. The film also starred Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd.

Audiences turned out in huge numbers. The movie earned $138.1 million in the United States and Canada, plus another $147.2 million internationally, for a global total of $285.3 million. It became the most successful film in the series by far, more than doubling the domestic total of the previous record holder, 2009’s The Final Destination.
Taylor’s work on the script was a major factor in its success, and bringing her back suggests New Line wants to keep the same creative energy for the sequel. Franchise producer Craig Perry, who has been with Final Destination from the start, is returning alongside long-time collaborator Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
Watts will also produce with his wife, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich. In a fun piece of trivia, Watts and McGunigle’s very first date was actually going to see a Final Destination movie. Warren Zide will serve as executive producer.
While plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps, it’s safe to say fans can expect more of the series’ signature mix of elaborate death sequences, tension, and the eerie inevitability that Death always wins in the end. Given the massive success of Bloodlines, this next installment will have a lot to live up to, but with Taylor and the franchise’s key players all back, it seems like New Line is aiming to deliver something just as big, if not bigger.
