New Rumors Reveal X-Men Costumes Fans Might See in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel fans are finally getting the X-Men back on the big screen, and the excitement is real. The characters are returning thanks to Disney buying 20th Century Fox, which gave Marvel Studios the rights to use them again. This means fans can now see stories they’ve been waiting for years to happen.

During a recent five-hour live stream, the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday was partially revealed. Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops.

Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as Beast, and Alan Cumming will return as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum is also coming back as Gambit, following his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine last year.

Fans are also curious about what the X-Men will look like in the movie. Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus recently shared some details during an AMA. According to Perez, the costumes will be a mix of two familiar styles. “The looks will combine elements from Astonishing X-Men and X-Men ’97,” he said.

Astonishing X-Men, a famous comic run written by Joss Whedon with art by John Cassaday, featured sleek, modern leather-and-fabric uniforms in darker tones. X-Men ’97, on the other hand, is bright, colorful, and comic-accurate with classic blues, yellows, and other bold superhero colors.

Perez’s comments make sense. X-Men ’97 has been a huge hit with fans, so it’s not surprising that Marvel is using that style to influence the MCU versions of the characters. The costumes will likely balance nostalgia with modern flair, appealing both to longtime comic readers and newer viewers.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is set to release exactly one year later on December 17, 2027. The story takes place fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts (2025) and brings together the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the original X-Men. Together, they will face off against Doctor Doom in what promises to be an epic showdown.

Fans have a lot to look forward to. Between the returning cast, the updated costumes, and the massive crossover story, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a major event for the MCU.
