First Look: Oscar Martinez Returns in ‘The Office’ Spinoff ‘The Paper’
Peacock has released a first look poster featuring Oscar Nunez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez in the upcoming mockumentary sitcom spinoff of The Office, titled The Paper. The new series is set to premiere on September 4, 2025, and will follow a declining historic Midwestern newspaper as it tries to bring itself back to life with the help of volunteer reporters, according to Peacock and multiple sources.
The Paper is created by Greg Daniels, who developed the original American version of The Office, and Michael Koman. The show takes place in the same universe as The Office but focuses on a new office and new characters. “It’s exciting to revisit the world we built in Scranton but explore it through a different lens,” Daniels said in a statement.

The story centers on the Toledo Truth-Teller, a historic newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. Domhnall Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, the new editor-in-chief trying to revive the struggling paper. Sabrina Impacciatore plays Esmeralda Grand, and the cast also includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
The series will also feature a recurring cast including Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Eric Rahill, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts. The show is executive produced by Daniels, Koman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman, with Universal Television handling production.

Production began in July 2024, and the cast was gradually announced over the following months. In April 2024, it was confirmed that Gleeson and Impacciatore would star, followed by additional cast members joining between September and November. Nunez’s return as Oscar Martinez was confirmed in February 2025.
The Paper promises to bring the same mockumentary style that made The Office a hit, but this time it focuses on a newspaper office in the Midwest. With its mix of returning and new characters, the show aims to attract both longtime fans and new viewers.
Fans can mark their calendars for September 4, 2025, when The Paper will debut on Peacock, offering a fresh yet familiar comedy experience set in the world of The Office.
