According to Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Economics data, King of the Hill has brought in nearly $100 million in streaming revenue since the first quarter of 2020.

That puts it on the same level as “American Dad!,” which is still producing new episodes, and far ahead of Mike Judge’s earlier hit, “Beavis and Butt-Head,” which has earned just over $50 million for Paramount+ since 2020, including its reboot.

For Hulu, these numbers show why it made sense to revive “King of the Hill.” Bringing Arlen, Texas, into the modern world is a smart move for a platform looking for proven shows that keep viewers coming back. “Fans have been waiting for years for new episodes, and that creates a huge initial spike in interest,” industry analysts say.

This isn’t Hulu’s first time bringing an old animated favorite back. In 2023, “Futurama” returned after a 10-year break. Since then, it has gone from a moderate performer to one of Hulu’s top animated revenue drivers. The show’s total contribution is now approaching $120 million, with a third season set to premiere next month.

Hulu seems to be using the same strategy for “King of the Hill,” releasing all episodes at once on August 4, 2025, instead of spreading them out. “The goal is to turn that first wave of nostalgic viewers into long-term engagement,” the source said.

The revival was officially announced after Mike Judge and co-creator Greg Daniels formed Bandera Entertainment on January 18, 2022. Hulu picked up the show on January 31, 2023. The new season is streaming on Hulu and Disney+ with Hulu, and it is expected to run for two seasons.

To promote the show, Alamo Beer Co., based in San Antonio, is releasing a “King of the Hill”-inspired beer in 2025.

Tragedy struck the production when Jonathan Joss, the second voice actor for John Redcorn, was killed on June 1, 2025, following a confrontation outside his home in San Antonio. People reported that Joss had already recorded lines for four episodes before his death. How the team will handle the rest of the season is still unclear.

Despite challenges, Hulu’s strategy with “King of the Hill” shows how valuable long-running animated shows can be for streaming platforms, combining nostalgia, proven popularity, and strong marketing to generate big returns.
