The Conjuring: Last Rites is the ninth movie in the Conjuring series. It is directed by Michael Chaves, who has worked on previous films in the franchise, and produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, the creators behind the Conjuring universe.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the real-life paranormal investigators. In this film, they take on what is described as their final case, giving fans another chilling story based on true events.
Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy also join the cast as Judy Warren and her boyfriend Tony Spera. Steve Coulter returns as Father Gordon, and other actors include Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton, and Shannon Kook.
Michael Chaves directed the movie from a screenplay by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, with contributions from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The story was created by Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan, based on characters developed by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes.
Executive producers include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Natalia Safran, John Rickard, Hans Ritter, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
The movie will be in theaters and IMAX in North America on September 5, 2025, and internationally starting September 3, 2025. Warner Bros. Pictures will handle the worldwide release.
Before The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It came out in 2021, Chaves told Empire, “What [The Devil Made Me Do It] hopefully does is open up this new chapter for the Warrens. This has a very unique ending to The Conjuring films. I would be excited to see where it could go from here.”
Farmiga also talked about returning to the series, saying, “Oh my God, I’d love to [continue]. It’s interesting, we have to up the fear in each one. Demonology is already so high-pitched and operatic.”
Chaves said in 2023 that the movie was meant to be a finale for the earlier stories in the series. By early 2024, he was officially hired as director again, and in September 2024, Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing finished rewrites of the original draft. Hardy and Tomlinson were added to the cast in supporting roles.
