Rachel McAdams Names Her All-Time Favorite Comedy Co-Star: “Better Than Anyone”
Rachel McAdams has shared who she thinks is the funniest actor she’s ever worked with, and it might surprise some fans. In an interview with Glamour, McAdams, known for her work in both comedy and drama, praised Harrison Ford for his dry humor, calling him a master of the craft.
“I’m very silly as a person, but quality silliness onscreen has more of an art to it,” McAdams said. “Harrison Ford, whom I was in Morning Glory with, has mastered that dry funny better than anyone.”
McAdams starred with Ford in the 2010 comedy Morning Glory, directed by the late Roger Michell. She played Colleen Peck, a determined young TV executive trying to save a struggling morning show, while Ford took on the role of Mike Pomeroy, a tough journalist who looks down on the lighthearted program.
His straight-faced delivery provided the perfect counterpoint to the more exaggerated performances around him, creating a strong comedic balance.
Despite being famous for roles like Indiana Jones and Han Solo, Ford has often surprised audiences with his comedic timing.
McAdams points to scenes in Morning Glory and even moments from his action films as proof of his natural humor. His ability to stay serious while chaos unfolds around him makes his performances unexpectedly funny.
McAdams has also worked with other comedy stars, including Jason Bateman, Chelsea Peretti, Owen Wilson, and Vince Vaughn. In Game Night, she matched Bateman and Peretti’s deadpan style, while in Wedding Crashers, she held her own against Wilson and Vaughn’s energetic antics. Yet, she says Ford stands out.
“Comedy is incredibly subjective, and it is so hard to pull off as an actor. There are so many ways to make audiences laugh, and playing it deadpan while everything else falls apart around you is one of the hardest techniques to nail. Ford does nail it, and his co-stars, McAdams included, are clearly very grateful,” noted the interview.
For McAdams, working with Ford was a lesson in comedic timing and restraint. Fans of both actors can see why she holds him in such high regard.
I think it’s really interesting that someone like Harrison Ford, often seen as a serious action star, is recognized for his comedy. It shows how versatile he is and how effective deadpan humor can be. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments.
