First Look at Hilarious New Conan O’Brien’s Character in ‘Toy Story 5’ Has Been Revealed

Conan O’Brien is officially stepping into the world of Pixar and now his character has been revealed. At Disney’s D23 Destination D presentation, a look at Smarty Pants in Toy Story 5 has been shown it’s described as a potty training toy.

O’Brien previously confirmed the news on his own social media, joking that while he had his eye on playing Woody or Buzz, he quickly realized that “Smarty Pants is the best character of them all.”

The movie will once again bring Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the toys back together, but this time the story looks at how kids’ love of electronics shakes things up in the toy box. Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton is directing, with McKenna Harris co-directing and Jessica Choi producing.

Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, already teased a little of what’s coming. He said earlier this year that Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, will take center stage in this chapter. “I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” Allen said. “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

The last film in the series, Toy Story 4, came out in 2019 and made more than $1 billion worldwide. It followed the huge success of Toy Story 3 in 2010, which also passed the billion mark and even won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. While some fans were worried Pixar had already given the toys the perfect ending, the fourth film was embraced by critics and audiences alike.

Now with Conan O’Brien adding his own spin as Smarty Pants, Pixar is setting the stage for another big adventure with the toys.
