Sony Pictures has shared the first trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the latest film in the 28 Days Later series.

The movie continues the story from 28 Years Later and takes place in a post-apocalyptic England. Spike, played by Alfie Williams, meets Sir Jimmy Crystal, a dangerous cult leader played by Jack O’Connell, and his team of acrobatic killers.

According to the film’s official synopsis, “Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape.”

The synopsis also notes, “In the world of ‘The Bone Temple,’ the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”

The movie is directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland. It was filmed back-to-back with 28 Years Later and marks the fourth installment of the 28 Days Later franchise. The cast includes Alfie Williams as Spike, Jack O’Connell as Sir Jimmy Crystal, Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson, and Cillian Murphy returning as Jim, a character from the original outbreak.

Other actors joining the story include Emma Laird, Maura Bird, Erin Kellyman, Chi Lewis-Parry, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, although Taylor-Johnson’s character does not return-

The movie was produced by Columbia Pictures, and principal photography started on August 19, 2024. Some scenes were filmed in Ennerdale, Cumbria, where Cillian Murphy was spotted on set in September 2024.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is set to release in the United States on January 16, 2026, through Sony Pictures Releasing. A sequel is already in development, continuing the story further.
