The first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s new movie Wuthering Heights is finally here, and it is not what you might expect from a classic period drama. Instead of quiet stares and gloomy mansions, the preview feels more like Bridgerton than Downton Abbey.

The film stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, and the trailer wastes no time showing the heat between them. It opens on a wide shot of the Yorkshire moors, then quickly shifts to Robbie’s face before cutting to a very sensual close-up of two women kneading bread.

From there, it gets even steamier. Viewers see sweaty backs, shirtless Elordi hauling hay, more bread being kneaded, and a lot of hands and mouths crossing lines. There’s a bodice being tightened, then ripped apart, more shirtless Elordi, the two leads about to kiss, and even a fish getting a finger in its mouth.

The story comes from Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel, which is widely considered one of the great works of English literature. The book follows the tangled relationships of the Earnshaws and the Lintons, with Heathcliff at the center of the drama. Fennell’s film keeps the setting but clearly turns up the sensuality.

Robbie also produces the movie through her company LuckyChap, which previously made Saltburn and Promising Young Woman. This marks her third time working with Fennell, who wrote and directed the film.

Not everything around the project has been smooth. Some backlash followed after Fennell cast Elordi as Heathcliff, since the character in the book is described as a “dark-skinned gipsy” and a “lascar,” a term that referred to sailors from India or Southeast Asia. These parts of the original text deal with race and class, which some fans feel is an important element to the story.

Despite the controversy, Elordi has spoken highly of the experience. In an interview with Deadline earlier this year, he said, “The performances from everyone — it’s breathtaking. It’s an incredible romance. It’s a true epic. It’s visually beautiful. The script is beautiful. The costumes are incredible.”

The movie is backed by MRC, with Warner Bros. handling distribution after winning a bidding war. Wuthering Heights is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026 — just in time for Valentine’s Day.
