Disney and BBC Studios have confirmed some huge news for fans of Bluey. The beloved blue heeler is heading to the big screen in her very first feature film, set to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027.

The announcement came today from BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Studios, who are teaming up with Ludo Studio to bring the hit show to cinemas.

The movie will be written and directed by Bluey’s creator, Joe Brumm. He is also on board as an executive producer.

The film is being produced by Ludo Studio alongside BBC Studios, with Amber Naismith, known for Happy Feet and The LEGO Movie, taking on producing duties. Richard Jeffery, who has worked on Bluey since the early seasons, will co-direct.

For Disney, the project is being overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. BBC Studios is financing and licensing the movie, while Disney is handling the theatrical release.

Support is also coming from the Australian Government through Screen Australia and Screen Queensland.

Voice actors Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack are returning as Chilli and Bandit, Bluey’s mum and dad. This will be the first time Bluey and her family are seen in a full-length story on the big screen.

The movie promises to capture the heart and humor of the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series, but on a much bigger scale.

Bluey has become one of the most popular shows in the world. According to BBC Studios, it was the most-watched program on Disney+ worldwide in 2024 and the most-streamed show in the United States for the same year.

It has also stayed on top into 2025. The series has collected awards too, including a Peabody Award in 2024 and back-to-back honors from the Television Critics Association in 2023 and 2024.

The show first launched in Australia but quickly spread around the world. It is now available in more than 140 markets and is the number one kids’ show on Disney+ and CBeebies in the UK.

The movie is expected to bring that same energy and heart to theaters in 2027, letting audiences experience Bluey’s world in a whole new way.
