Channing Tatum is back as Gambit for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and he’s already hyping fans about what’s to come.

Speaking to Variety, Tatum couldn’t hide his excitement over the scale of the movie. “When I say a huge movie, it’s like an understatement. I don’t have a word big enough. I’m not good enough with words to explain how big this movie will be. It’s going to blow people’s minds,” he said.

There have been rumors that Ryan Reynolds might return as Deadpool, but Tatum downplayed the idea. “I think he’s busy enough. He’s got like 15,000 jobs,” he said. Still, he showed appreciation for Reynolds, who helped bring him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“My buddy Ryan, I’ll be forever [grateful]. If his kids ever needed a kidney, I’d give it. He takes care of his people, and I’ll always be there for him,” Tatum shared.

Tatum previously teased a major moment for Gambit in the movie, hinting at a fight with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. The actor talked about what makes his character stand out. “He likes women, he smokes, he drinks. He’s not just a save-the-world kind of guy — we need those, but we need contrast,” Tatum explained.

He also mentioned that Marvel executives had to adjust to Gambit’s accent, and he chose not to go fully Cajun.

According to Tatum, the Russo brothers want Gambit to mix humor with serious moments. “When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter,” he said. Filming has been tough at times, especially with long days in London, but Tatum said the experience has been rewarding.

He also shared that family considerations played a role in his decision to join the film. “I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do ‘Avengers,’ because I was going to have to be gone, but I was like — it’s OK. She’s going into middle school now,” he said.

Tatum first played Gambit in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, quickly becoming a fan favorite. He will now reunite with other X-Men legends, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. The actor has a long history with the character.

He was originally set to star in a solo Gambit movie and even worked on co-directing it with his producing partner Reid Carolin, but the project was canceled after Disney acquired Fox in 2019.

It sounds like Avengers: Doomsday will give fans a fresh look at Gambit while staying true to the character’s charm and edge. Personally, I’m excited to see how Tatum balances humor and drama in a world with so many iconic heroes. What do you think? Will Gambit steal the show in Avengers: Doomsday?
