DC Studios is moving forward with Clayface, the latest film in its DC Universe, and fans are already getting excited about Gotham’s newest villain.

The movie will explore Bruce Wayne’s home city for the first time in the current DCU, even though a Dark Knight has not yet been officially cast for future films. James Gunn’s The Brave and the Bold will follow Batman training his 10-year-old son Damian as Robin, which means Gotham already has a history of crime and famous villains, including The Joker.

A new set photo from Liverpool, England, shows a poster reading, “Corruption is the ENEMY of the people,” encouraging people to “march against the GCPD” and ending with “JOIN THE JOKER.” This gives fans a hint of the story’s darker tone and the connections to Gotham’s criminal underworld.

Clayface is a superhero horror film based on the classic DC character. The story follows Matt Hagen, an actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster.

Desperate for a solution, he turns to a scientist, played by Naomi Ackie, who transforms his body into clay. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Clayface, with Max Minghella playing a Gotham City detective dating Ackie’s character. Eddie Marsan is also in the cast in an undisclosed role.

The project was first pitched by Mike Flanagan to the newly formed DC Studios in March 2023. Flanagan was originally interested in directing but could not due to scheduling conflicts. James Watkins was later hired as director in February, with Hossein Amini rewriting the script by May.

Harries was cast in June, and additional casting continued over the following months. Filming started in August, with location shoots in Liverpool and soundstage work at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Clayface is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on September 11, 2026, as part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It will be produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios, alongside Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris.

The film promises a mix of body horror and superhero action, showing how Matt Hagen’s transformation into Clayface will create chaos in Gotham City.

Fans are already speculating whether Batman might appear in some form, but with the casting of the Caped Crusader still pending, nothing has been confirmed.
