Paul Feig’s upcoming psychological thriller, The Housemaid, is set to hit theaters on December 19. The film is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine. It stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone. Elizabeth Perkins and Mark Grossman also join the cast, according to reports.

Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, a housemaid navigating a world of wealth and secrets. Seyfried stars as Nina Winchester, the unpredictable wife of Andrew Winchester, played by Brandon Sklenar. Michele Morrone takes on the role of Enzo, a vigilant groundskeeper, while Elizabeth Perkins portrays Andrew’s strict mother, Evelyn. Mark Grossman appears as Millie’s first boyfriend, Scott Crawford.

Production for the film is handled by Hidden Pictures with Todd Lieberman producing, and Feig and Laura Fischer also serving as producers. In October 2024, Sweeney and Seyfried were announced as leading the cast and taking on executive producer roles alongside McFadden and Alex Young.

Sklenar joined the project later that month, with Morrone announced in December 2024. Perkins’ casting was reported in September 2025. Principal photography began on January 3, in New Jersey and wrapped in March according to sources.

Speaking about her role, Seyfried told PEOPLE, “The film captures everything fans loved about the book — the secrets, the tension and the twists. We can’t wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the experience.”

Sweeney added, “Millie is exactly the type of character I love to play: complex, strong and with a little something up her sleeve. I can’t wait for fans to see how hard we all worked to bring The Housemaid to life.”

Feig described the story as centered on the tension between Millie and Nina. “Millie is someone we invest in immediately as she walks into what to her is a very foreign world of wealth and high expectations,” he said.

“Nina is a portrait of unpredictability and extremes. It’s thrilling to see their interplay as the Millie-Nina relationship changes over the course of the film.”

The director praised both lead actresses, saying, “They are both up for anything, and we had so much fun playing with all the twists and turns that the story takes these characters through. They both slipped into these challenging roles effortlessly and took full ownership of them. We couldn’t have had a better time together making this movie.”

Feig also commented on the adaptation itself, calling it “a faithful interpretation” of McFadden’s book with added surprises. “And no, I’m not teasing any of the surprises. They must be seen to be believed. The Housemaid is pure entertainment – a sexy and surprising rollercoaster ride of a movie that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.”

“This movie is the kind of insane fun that you’ll want to watch over and over this holiday season. So bring your friends and wear your pearls because you’ll definitely be clutching them!”

The Housemaid looks like it will be a tense and exciting thriller. The cast seems to have great chemistry, and Paul Feig promises a story full of twists. What do you think about the film? Share your thoughts in the comments.
