Vampire Diaries Star Calls Off Engagement, Ends Relationship After Five Years

Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have ended their engagement after five years together, PEOPLE reports.

The couple, who have been together since 2019, decided to part ways in a mutual decision, according to a source close to them. “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” the source said.

Representatives for both White and Dobrev did not respond to requests for comment. The pair were last seen together on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands.

However, Dobrev appeared at the premiere of Eternity at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 without her 5-carat engagement ring and has removed her engagement post from Instagram.

White and Dobrev first met briefly at an awards show in 2012 but became acquainted in 2019 when they were both speakers at a Tony Robbins event in Florida.

Reflecting on their first dinner together after the event, White said in January 2022, “I actually didn’t know anything about [Dobrev] at the time. But I found it fascinating when several staff members requested a photo with her. And I was like, ‘What’s happening? What’s going on?’ It was actually really funny.”

The couple started dating in 2019 and moved in together at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. White made their relationship Instagram official in May 2020, sharing photos of Dobrev giving him a quarantine haircut. He previously said, “Nina’s just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me. Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special.”

White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024 at a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City. He tricked her into thinking they were attending a CFDA/Vogue event before popping the question with a 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring.

At the time, White shared the moment on Instagram, writing, “She said YES 💍♾️.” Dobrev captioned her own post, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”
