[Trailer] Sydney Sweeney & Amanda Seyfried Face Off in Bloody Thriller ‘The Housemaid’
A brand-new trailer has dropped for The Housemaid, Lionsgate’s upcoming psychological thriller that teams up Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
The movie is based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel and is directed by Paul Feig, who’s known for films like A Simple Favor.
In the story, Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, a young woman with a troubled past who takes a job as a live-in maid for the wealthy Winchester family.
Things look picture-perfect at first, but Millie soon realizes the household is hiding some very dark secrets. Amanda Seyfried stars as Nina Winchester, the mysterious wife, while Brandon Sklenar plays her husband Andrew. The cast also includes Michele Morrone as Enzo the groundskeeper, Elizabeth Perkins as Andrew’s mother Evelyn, and Mark Grossman as Millie’s ex-boyfriend Scott.

The project has been in the works since Lionsgate announced it in 2024. Todd Lieberman is producing along with Paul Feig and Laura Fischer, and Sweeney and Seyfried are also executive producers on the film alongside author Freida McFadden. The screenplay was written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, adapting McFadden’s 2022 novel.
Casting came together in late 2024 with Sweeney and Seyfried locked in first. Brandon Sklenar joined soon after, with Morrone signing on by the end of the year. In September, Elizabeth Perkins was also added to the lineup.
Filming started in New Jersey in January and continued through March. Theodore Shapiro, who has worked with Feig several times before, is composing the score.
Lionsgate will release The Housemaid in theaters in the United States on December 19. It was originally scheduled for Christmas Day but was moved up a week.
