Marvel Studios is bringing a new animated series to Disney+ called Marvel Zombies. The show, created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, is based on the popular Marvel Comics series.

It’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be produced by Marvel Studios Animation. The story picks up from the “What If… Zombies?!” episode of the animated series What If…? (2021–2024) and follows a group of survivors as they try to fight superpowered zombies to save the world. Andrews is the showrunner and director, while Wells serves as head writer.

The series features a large cast of actors reprising their roles from other MCU projects. Awkwafina, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Hailee Steinfeld, Tessa Thompson, Dominique Thorne, and Iman Vellani all return, alongside Todd Williams.

Marvel Studios had been working on several animated series by June 2021, including this spin-off from the “What If… Zombies?!” episode, which was officially announced in November 2021.

The animation style matches What If…?, with Stellar Creative Lab returning to provide the visuals. Marvel Zombies will be the first series from Marvel Studios Animation to receive a TV-MA rating.

The series is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on September 24 and will have four episodes. It will also be part of Phase Six of the MCU.

In an interview with ComicBook, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum and showrunner Bryan Andrews said a plan for a possible second season is already ready. Winderbaum encouraged viewers to watch the first season. “Please, like, people have got to subscribe to Disney+ and watch this show,” he said. “If that happens, they will get more. And we are excited. We’re ready.”

This show looks like it could be a big hit for Marvel fans, especially those who enjoy darker, adult-themed stories in the MCU. What do you think about Marvel Zombies? Will you be watching it on Disney+? Share your thoughts in the comments.
