2025’s Hit Horror Movie Returns to 70MM IMAX This Halloween
Horror fans in Florida have a rare chance to see one of 2025’s biggest hits on the big screen this Halloween. Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, will return to the Autonation IMAX Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale on October 31, showing in true 70MM IMAX film.
The theater is the 15th largest IMAX screen in the U.S. and one of only five in the world with both IMAX dual laser projection and 15/70mm film projection.
Sinners is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta. It stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal twin brothers who return to their hometown, only to face a supernatural evil. The film also features Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton in his film debut, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
Coogler developed the movie through his production company, Proximity Media, and Jordan was cast in the lead roles early on. The project was announced in January 2024, and after a bidding war, Warner Bros. Pictures secured the distribution rights. Additional cast members joined in April 2024, and principal photography ran from April to July of that year. Ludwig Göransson, Coogler’s longtime collaborator, composed the score and served as an executive producer.
Sinners premiered on April 3, at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City and was released nationwide on April 18. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing $366.7 million worldwide, including $278.6 million in the U.S. and Canada.
On Rotten Tomatoes, 97 percent of 411 critic reviews were positive, with the consensus calling it “a rip-roaring fusion of masterful visual storytelling and toe-tapping music, writer-director Ryan Coogler’s first original blockbuster reveals the full scope of his singular imagination.” Metacritic gave it a score of 84 out of 100, indicating universal acclaim. CinemaScore reported an “A,” the highest grade for a horror film in 35 years.

Critics praised Coogler’s vision and Jordan’s performance. Rolling Stone’s A.A. Dowd said the director was “swinging wide and far beyond the boundaries of franchise fare,” while The Observer’s Wendy Ide noted that “Coogler’s assurance and vision holds everything together.”
Peter Travers of ABC News called it “Coogler and Jordan’s best and most daring work yet.” Some critics found the supernatural second half less strong than the first, and The Wall Street Journal’s Zachary Barnes suggested the film’s themes didn’t fully come together, though he praised Jordan’s acting.
Coogler has cited Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn as an inspiration, while also comparing it to Rodriguez’s The Faculty. Fans getting a chance to see Sinners in IMAX 70MM this Halloween will experience Coogler’s vision at its most immersive, combining stunning visuals with a gripping horror story.
