Anime fans are celebrating as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle has officially become the top-grossing anime film of all time.

The movie recently outperformed Jordan Peele’s Him at the box office, claiming the number one spot for the weekend.

After setting a record-breaking $70 million U.S. opening last weekend, Demon Slayer is expected to bring in $17.3 million this weekend, a 77 percent drop but still enough to secure first place.

By comparison, Peele’s Him, produced by Universal and Monkeypaw, is projected to make $13.5 million, slightly below earlier estimates of $15 million.

The film, produced by Ufotable and distributed by Sony-owned Crunchyroll, has already become a global sensation. It has now earned over $555 million worldwide, surpassing all other anime films in box office history.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle is based on the “Infinity Castle” arc from Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga series, which ran from 2016 to 2020. The 2025 film is a direct sequel to the anime’s fourth season and follows previous adaptations, including Mugen Train (2020), To the Swordsmith Village (2023), and To the Hashira Training (2024). Unlike the last two adaptations, which were compilations of episodes, Infinity Castle is a full-length feature that covers the arc’s dramatic story in detail.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and written by Ufotable’s staff, the movie was first released in Japan on July 18, under the title Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns.

It premiered in select Asian countries through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Releasing in August, before expanding to the rest of the world in September.

The film has broken several records, including becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film worldwide and the top-grossing movie of 2025 in Japan. It is also the ninth-highest-grossing film globally for the year. Critics praised the film for its stunning action scenes, beautiful visuals, and compelling story, though some noted minor pacing issues.
