Fans Speculate Why Charlie Cox Won’t Attend His Next Convention
Charlie Cox will miss his upcoming appearance at Spacecon San Antonio, and fans think they know why. The actor is busy filming the next Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where he is set to reprise his role as Daredevil.
Filming for the movie began on August 3, in Glasgow, Scotland, under the temporary title Blue Oasis. Tom Holland, the star of the Spider-Man films, is also filming the movie, and the schedule was adjusted to fit around his other projects, including The Odyssey.
Production took place in Glasgow city center for about two weeks, with some locations standing in for New York City.
Holland said he was excited to return to on-location shooting, which reminded him of making Homecoming. “It felt like making Homecoming, after we were stuck on soundstages for No Way Home because of COVID,” he said.
Set photos from Glasgow showed armored vehicles with red demon logos, sparking speculation about possible comic book villains appearing in the film.
Additional filming took place at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, England, and later at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. During production in September, Holland suffered a mild concussion while performing a stunt, which paused shooting for about ten days, though this was not expected to affect the movie’s release date.
It’s possible that this pause affected Cox’s Spacecon appearance and caused a scheduling conflict.
The cast is also expanding. Tramell Tillman joined the project in late August, and Marvin Jones III was announced as playing Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone. Some filming took place in Basingstoke with stunt doubles, continuing into early October.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release in the United States on July 31, 2026. The release date was pushed back a week to avoid overlapping with Holland’s other film, The Odyssey, and to prevent competition for IMAX screens. The movie will be part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
