The film, also known in Japan as 劇場版 チェンソーマン レゼ篇 (Gekijō-ban Chensō Man Reze-hen), is a dark fantasy action anime based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga series, Chainsaw Man. Serving as a direct continuation of the first season of the anime, it is produced by MAPPA, directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, and written by Hiroshi Seko.

Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc premiered in Japan on September 19, through Toho. Internationally, the film will be released by Crunchyroll via Sony Pictures Releasing, with select Asian markets beginning September 24 and a global rollout running until October 24.

The movie had a strong opening in Japan, selling over 272,000 tickets and generating more than ¥420 million (around $2.8 million) on its first day. During its opening weekend, it remained at the top of the Japanese box office, selling 807,000 tickets and earning ¥1.251 billion (approximately $8.46 million). This ended Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’s nine-week streak at number one.

Fans and critics have praised Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc for its animation, action sequences, and faithful adaptation of the manga. Its success reflects the continued global popularity of Japanese anime films and the growing anticipation for sequels from beloved series.
