The One Piece manga is facing another break after fans grew concerned about creator Eiichiro Oda’s health.

The series, currently exploring the secrets behind the God Valley Incident, was already on hiatus last week, delaying Chapter 1162. That chapter is now scheduled to release on October 12th, via the official Manga Plus app.

After the first unexpected break, fans worried that Oda’s workload on the manga, combined with the upcoming live-action adaptation’s second season, was taking a toll on him. The short hiatus didn’t seem to give him enough rest, sparking further concern over his health.

According to @WSJ_manga on X, Chapter 1162 will now face another one-week hiatus. “Mangakas are often overworked and deal with several health issues, which frequently worries fans,” the post explained. Weekly Shonen Jump creators, including Oda, usually take breaks every three to four weeks. However, consecutive breaks often happen when a mangaka falls ill.

One Piece has been serialized weekly since 1997, a schedule that has clearly put pressure on Oda over the years. Following the previous unexpected break, Shonen Jump issued a message apologizing to fans. Since Chapter 1163’s delay was planned in advance, an official health update from the author may not be provided this time.

The news has left fans hoping that Oda can get enough rest to continue his work on one of the most beloved manga series in history.
