The new Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, is set to take a surprising turn for the franchise.

According to producer Rosenblatt, the film will carry a PG-13 rating, marking the first time a mainline Predator movie has received a rating this mild.

Rosenblatt explained that the goal is to make the movie feel as intense as an R-rated film while reaching a wider audience. “We’ll see where it ends up, but our hope for it is that it can be a PG-13 that feels like an R,” he said. “That’s kind of our hope. And really, what that’s about is just being able to broaden out the audience for a movie like this.”

The film won’t show any human characters being harmed, which means there won’t be any human red blood on screen. “We don’t have any humans in the movie and so we don’t have any human red blood,” Rosenblatt added.

“So we’re hoping that’s gonna play to our advantage. We’re going to go as hard as we possibly can within those constraints, and we think we’ll be able to do some pretty awesomely gruesome stuff. But in colours other than red.”

Instead, audiences can expect plenty of alien gore, including glowing green predator blood and milky synthetic fluid. The filmmakers insist the movie will still be “as violent as possible”, despite the rating.

However, many longtime fans are unhappy with the news. Social media is full of complaints such as “So they neutered a Predator movie” and “What a disaster of a rating for attracting a Predator audience.” The negative reaction highlights that fans are worried the PG-13 rating might dilute the raw intensity that made the original movies popular.

With Predator: Badlands aiming for a wider audience but keeping alien violence at the forefront, it remains to be seen if it will satisfy both new viewers and diehard fans. Do you think a PG-13 Predator can still be as exciting as the originals? Share your thoughts in the comments.
