HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is giving fans a first look at scenes never shown in the original films. New photos from the set in the English village of Lustleigh, shared by William Dax/SNSW and Wizarding World Direct on X, appear to depict the night Lord Voldemort attacked Harry’s parents in Godric’s Hollow.

People dressed in Halloween costumes suggest this dramatic moment will be explored in full, likely including Voldemort’s arrival at the Potter house, the murder of James and Lily, and the spell rebounding, leaving Hagrid to take baby Harry.

The series is based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved Harry Potter books and is being developed by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films. Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Supporting roles feature John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost.

The project has been in the works since early 2021, with showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod overseeing production. Casting for the main roles started in late 2024, eventually selecting McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton from over 32,000 auditioning actors. Filming began in July at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, England. Originally planned for HBO Max, the series will now debut on HBO. The first season is scheduled to premiere in early 2027 and will include eight episodes.

Fans are especially excited about the potential to see iconic moments reimagined and explored in more detail than the films allowed. The new photos hint at a faithful yet fresh take on the story, promising intense drama and expanded backstory for key characters.

This series could be a major success if it balances nostalgia with new storytelling. Exploring Voldemort’s attack on the Potters in more detail is a bold move that could deepen the story for longtime fans while engaging new viewers.
