Adam Driver Reveals He Was Working on a Secret Star Wars Project – Details Revealed
Adam Driver has opened up about a Star Wars movie that never got made, one that could have brought his character, Kylo Ren, back to life.
In a new interview, the actor revealed that he had been working on a Star Wars project called The Hunt for Ben Solo with director Steven Soderbergh and writer Rebecca Blunt. The story would have taken place after The Rise of Skywalker, where Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, was redeemed and seemed to die.
“I always was interested in doing another ‘Star Wars,’” Driver said. “I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.”
Driver explained that he took the idea to Soderbergh, who helped shape it into a new story. Together with Blunt, they built a concept that explored what might happen if Ben Solo somehow survived. Driver said he had always imagined a full arc for his character, one that mirrored Darth Vader’s story but in reverse, and he felt that the trilogy didn’t finish that idea.
According to Driver, Soderbergh and Blunt developed the story and later pitched it to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm vice president Cary Beck, and chief creative officer Dave Filoni. The team was excited about it, and writer Scott Z. Burns was brought in to write the script.
Driver described the final script as something special. “It was one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of,” he said. “We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it.”
However, when the project was sent to Disney’s top executives, Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, they turned it down. “They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive,” Driver said. “And that was that.”
He added, “It was called ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’ and it was really cool. But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it.”
Soderbergh also shared his thoughts, saying, “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”
The reveal comes during a time of change for the Star Wars franchise. Kennedy is expected to step down as Lucasfilm president later this year. Meanwhile, several new Star Wars films are in the works, including Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, Shawn Levy’s Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling, a movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey, a James Mangold project, and a new saga from Simon Kinberg.
Even though The Hunt for Ben Solo will never reach fans, Driver’s comments show he still has a deep connection to the character that defined a major part of his career.
