‘Stranger Things’ Creators Confirm One Notable Character Won’t Return for Season 5
As fans eagerly await Stranger Things Season 5, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that Eddie Munson will not be returning. Joseph Quinn, who played the Hellfire Club leader and heavy metal rocker, rose to fame in Season 4 but his character is officially gone.
“I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead,” Matt Duffer told Empire. “Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.”
Eddie’s heroic sacrifice came during Season 4, when he distracted Vecna’s Demobats so the gang could attack Creel House in the Upside Down. While some characters who die, like Billy, have briefly returned as ghosts, the Duffers confirmed Eddie will not appear again.
The interview also introduced a new character for the final season. Linda Hamilton joins the cast as Dr. Kay, a government agent hunting Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown. “She’s hyper-intelligent and intimidating,” Matt Duffer said. “She’s a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun.”
Volume 1 of the three-part Season 5 will premiere on November 26. The cast includes returning stars like Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, along with Hamilton and Jamie Campbell Bower.
