Tommy Knight, better known as actor Sam Claflin, recently opened up about the possibility of returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Speaking to ComicBook while promoting his new Prime Video series Lazarus, Claflin was asked if he would reprise his role as Philip Swift, last seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides alongside Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey’s mermaid character, Syrena. “Let’s beg the producers, because I would love to revisit that world again,” he said.

Claflin also reflected on his first experience working in a major film. “It was my first ever film. I’d done a bit of TV before, but as a film experience, I was so nervous. I was like a deer in headlights. I didn’t know what was happening.”

“And you know what a scare. What a sort of stage to step onto when you don’t really know what’s going on. And so I took myself and the job so seriously and it deserved it in many ways. And Philip is that kind of character,” he shared.

He continued, “But equally I look back at that experience. God, I wish I just had more fun. Like, I just wish I allowed myself to just sort of enjoy it and relish every single moment. So I would love the opportunity to kind of get back on the pirate ship. I mean that would be a dream come true for me. But unfortunately it’s not in my hands. So, Jerry Bruckheimer, if you’re watching this, make it happen.”

While the chances of Swift returning remain uncertain, Claflin’s character has not been definitively written out. The Pirates franchise is known for bringing back characters even after long absences. Geoffrey Rush’s Captain Barbossa, for example, returned after his apparent death in the first film.

Other characters, like Damian O’Hare’s Lieutenant Gillette, also returned after years away, and there’s always the lingering possibility of Davy Jones making a comeback.

Claflin’s openness shows that the door isn’t fully closed for his return, and fans of the series might still see Philip Swift sail back onto the screen if Disney decides to pursue a reboot.
