Fans of Stranger Things may soon get to experience the show’s grand finale on the big screen. A new report from Puck News claims that the final episode of the hit Netflix series will premiere in theaters at the same time it’s released on the streaming platform.

According to the report, the two-hour series finale is expected to hit AMC Theatres and other cinema chains on December 31, the same day it arrives on Netflix. While the deal hasn’t been officially signed, sources told Puck News that plans are already in motion for the theatrical release.

The update comes not long after the Duffer Brothers, the show’s creators, said in a Variety interview that their request for a theatrical release had been turned down by Netflix’s Bela Bajaria. However, Puck News says that interview happened weeks ago, before talks between Netflix and AMC had advanced.

This move follows recent discussions between Netflix and theater chains, with the companies reportedly exploring new ways to bring Netflix titles to cinemas. It could mark the beginning of more theatrical releases for Netflix originals in the future.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is set to roll out in three parts. The first volume will drop on November 26, followed by the second on December 25, and the finale on December 31. The season will feature eight episodes and is produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen.

Most of the main cast will return for the final chapter, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp. They’ll be joined by Amybeth McNulty, who is being promoted to a series regular, and newcomer Linda Hamilton, best known for her role in The Terminator.

Set in the fall of 1987, the final season picks up a year after the events of Season 4. The group of friends in Hawkins faces their biggest battle yet as they try to defeat Vecna once and for all. But things get even more complicated when the military arrives in town and begins hunting Eleven.

If the report proves true, Stranger Things fans will be able to celebrate the end of the beloved series in a whole new way, surrounded by fellow fans at a midnight theater screening as the year comes to a close.
