Marvel Studios Reportedly Greenlights Season 2 of Critically Acclaimed Series
Marvel Studios is reportedly moving ahead with a second season of Marvel Zombies, the adult animated series that first premiered on Disney+ in September. The rumor comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the information on his Patreon.
The first season of Marvel Zombies was created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells and was based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name.
It served as a spin-off from What If…?, expanding on the alternate universe first introduced in the 2021 episode “What If… Zombies?!”. The show followed a group of heroes trying to survive in a world overrun by zombified versions of powerful Marvel characters.
Marvel Studios is reportedly moving forward with ‘MARVEL ZOMBIES’ Season 2.

Featuring a large voice cast that included Iman Vellani, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Elizabeth Olsen, the series became Marvel Studios Animation’s first title to receive a TV-MA rating. It stood out for its darker tone and graphic action, setting it apart from other MCU projects.
Season one consisted of four episodes and was part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While reactions from fans and critics were mixed, some praised its bold direction while others felt it didn’t fully explore its potential, it still attracted plenty of attention for pushing the boundaries of Marvel’s animated storytelling.
With Marvel reportedly giving the green light to a new season, fans can expect to see more of the gruesome alternate world that first captured audiences’ curiosity in What If…?. Details about the plot, returning cast members, and release window have not been confirmed yet, but the project is said to still be in early development.
Marvel Zombies was directed by Bryan Andrews, who also served as showrunner, with Zeb Wells as head writer. The animation was handled by Stellar Creative Lab, the same studio behind What If…?. It’s not yet known if the same creative team will return for season two.
