Elijah Wood gave two Lord of the Rings fans a moment they’ll never forget when he showed up unexpectedly at their wedding held at The Shire in New Zealand.

The actor, who became a global star as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, surprised the couple and their guests during their ceremony at the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata.

A video shared by Hobbiton Tours on TikTok on October 29 showed the heartwarming moment. The clip captured guests realizing who had arrived, and the crowd quickly broke into cheers and applause.

Wood, dressed simply in jeans and a raincoat, walked down the aisle to greet the newlyweds. He posed for photos with the couple and took a moment to look around the scene, smiling as he said, “Everyone is dressed as Hobbits.” He added, “This is amazing,” while the famous song “The Shire” played in the background.

The official TikTok video from Hobbiton Tours was captioned, “An unforgettable wedding in The Shire… #hobbiton,” and the company later posted more photos from the event taken by the wedding photographer.

Wood’s visit came 26 years after filming began on The Fellowship of the Ring, the first of Peter Jackson’s three films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels.

The movies became massive hits, earning over $2.9 billion worldwide and collecting 17 Academy Awards in total. The trilogy also turned its main cast, including Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, and Orlando Bloom, into household names.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Wood reflected on his time filming the trilogy and how difficult it was to part with the character of Frodo. “The ‘letting go’ of the character didn’t really happen until after The Return of the King was released,” he said. “We were saying goodbye over the course of many years, really. And then there was the Oscars — it felt like this extraordinary family reunion.”

For the lucky couple who tied the knot at Hobbiton, Wood’s surprise appearance turned their wedding into a truly magical moment , one straight out of Middle-earth itself.
