Olivia Rodrigo is calling out the Department of Homeland Security after the agency used one of her songs in a controversial social media post connected to immigration enforcement.

Earlier this week, the DHS, in collaboration with the White House’s Instagram page, posted a video urging undocumented immigrants to leave the United States voluntarily. The video featured scenes of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detaining people of color, alongside the message: “LEAVE NOW and self-deport using the CBP Home app. If you don’t, you will face the consequences.”

What made the post even more shocking to some was the choice of background music — Rodrigo’s “All-American Bi***” from her 2023 album Guts. The upbeat track played as the video displayed the agency’s warning.

Rodrigo didn’t stay silent. Taking to Instagram, she commented directly on the post, writing: “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.” Her message quickly spread across social media, with many fans and public figures backing her stance.

The video and its use of Rodrigo’s song sparked widespread backlash online, with many accusing the DHS of using art out of context to soften a harsh political message. Critics argued that pairing a pop anthem about identity and empowerment with images of ICE raids was deeply tone-deaf.

Rodrigo has not made any further comments since her post, but her public statement was clear, she wants no part in political messaging that she believes spreads hate or fear.
