Sequel to Hit Marvel Studios Special Presentation Officially in the Works
Michael Giacchino, the composer and director behind the 2023 MCU TV special Werewolf by Night, has confirmed that a sequel is in the works.
Speaking at Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Film panel, Giacchino revealed that he will direct the follow-up. He joked about the original special, saying, “If you haven’t seen it, watch it. It’s on Disney+ if you still have that.”
The first Werewolf by Night was one of the standout releases of MCU Phase 4. It earned a 90% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and gained attention for its unique approach. The special was released in black and white as a tribute to classic horror films, and it starred Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell, the titular werewolf, alongside Laura Donnelly as the monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.
At the end of the special, Elsa claimed the mystical Bloodstone, making her a strong new character in the MCU’s supernatural side. Jack Russell also showed signs of controlling his beast form, hinting at his potential future as a heroic figure. The special also introduced the monstrous Man-Thing, a character that has been teased in the MCU for years.
There has been little news about the sequel until now. Giacchino previously said in April that he was eager to return to Werewolf by Night, but Marvel was waiting for the entertainment industry to stabilize after recent changes. The studio has reduced its yearly release schedule to avoid over-saturating the brand, but it seems the sequel has now found its place.
Fans of the first special can look forward to seeing these stories continue under Giacchino’s direction.
