A new trailer has been released for The Housemaid, an upcoming psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig. The film, based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 best-selling novel, stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in a dark, suspenseful story about secrets hidden behind a perfect façade.

Lionsgate will release the film in the United States on December 19.

In the movie, Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, a young woman trying to start fresh after a troubled past. She takes a job as a live-in maid for the wealthy Winchester family, led by Nina Winchester, played by Seyfried. At first, the family seems to have everything, money, beauty, and charm, but Millie soon realizes something is not right in their home. What she discovers turns her world upside down.

The cast also includes Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, Nina’s husband; Michele Morrone as Enzo, the family’s groundskeeper; Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn Winchester, Andrew’s mother; and Indiana Elle as their daughter, Cecelia. Other cast members include Mark Grossman, Hannah Cruz, Megan Ferguson, and Ellen Tamaki.

The movie was filmed in New Jersey between January and March. Feig, who is known for movies like A Simple Favor and Bridesmaids, directs from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Feig also produced the movie along with Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer for Hidden Pictures. Sweeney and Seyfried are executive producers, alongside author Freida McFadden and Alex Young.

Composer Theodore Shapiro, a frequent collaborator of Feig’s, created the score for the film.
