‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’ Gets Exciting New Trailer
A new trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants has just been released, giving fans a glimpse of SpongeBob’s latest adventure.
The animated film, set to hit theaters on December 19, is the fourth big-screen movie based on the beloved SpongeBob SquarePants series created by Stephen Hillenburg. Paramount Pictures will handle the U.S. release, and the film had its world premiere at the AFI Film Festival on October 26.
The movie is directed by Derek Drymon, a long-time contributor to the show. It features the familiar voice cast, including Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton. Joining them are George Lopez, Ice Spice, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill, who takes over the role of the Flying Dutchman from Brian Doyle-Murray.

The story follows SpongeBob as he tries to prove his courage to Mr. Krabs. Desperate to become a “big guy,” SpongeBob ventures into the deepest parts of the ocean to confront the Flying Dutchman. The movie promises plenty of laughs, action, and underwater adventures for audiences of all ages.
Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman wrote the screenplay, based on a story by Brady and series creators Marc Ceccarelli and Kaz. John Debney, who scored the 2015 SpongeBob movie Sponge Out of Water, returns to compose the music for this film.
The movie was originally scheduled for a May 23, release but was moved to December 19 because of scheduling changes caused by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Along with the main feature, audiences will also see an animated short called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey.
