Art Teacher Matt Taylor Goes Viral on Social Media: Here’s What’s Happening
Art teacher Matt Taylor has become a viral sensation on TikTok, but many viewers are starting to suspect that he isn’t actually a fourth-grade art teacher. Fans and commenters have noted that Taylor bears a striking resemblance to actor Kevin James, the star of Paul Blart: Mall Cop and The King of Queens.
According to social media observations, James seems to appear in at least 15 videos, playing the character of a cheerful art teacher who offers painting tips, life advice, and occasional musings about love.
While there’s no official confirmation yet, clues suggest that this viral art teacher persona is tied to James’ upcoming romantic comedy Solo Mio, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 6, 2026.
A press release from distributor Angel Studios revealed that James’ character in the film is named Matt. Angel Studios, known for producing faith-friendly projects such as Sound of Freedom, is listed as the company behind the movie. Representatives for both James and Angel Studios have not publicly commented on the connection between the TikTok videos and the film.

Additional hints come from the filmmakers themselves. The Kinnane Brothers, an eight-sibling collective behind Solo Mio, follow the Matt Taylor account on Instagram.
Two of the brothers, Charles and Daniel, are directing the movie, while Patrick and John helped write the screenplay alongside James. The Kinnanes have previously collaborated with James on the viral Sound Guy video series during the COVID-19 pandemic, showing their experience in using social media for promotional purposes. Several cast members of Solo Mio, including Julee Cerda and Julie Ann Emery, also follow the Matt Taylor account. Other stars like Kim Coates, Alyson Hannigan, Jonathan Roumie, and Nicole Grimaudo do not.
The premise of Solo Mio describes Matt as a man whose dream Italian wedding falls apart when his fiancée leaves him at the altar. He then travels across Italy on his planned honeymoon, exploring the culture, food, and scenery.
While the film doesn’t explicitly mention Matt being an art teacher, some of the TikTok videos hint at connections to his character.
In one video, he discusses including couples in his landscape paintings, saying, “When you’re painting, you’re painting an ideal, I guess. And for me to see a couple is a completion. And in my life right now, we’re working there.”

The latest video shows Matt distracted by a passing woman in his classroom, hinting that romance may soon play a role in his story. While it’s not confirmed, fans are speculating that these TikTok sketches serve as a playful preview for James’ film.
