New Rumors Reveal Magneto’s Role in the Upcoming Avengers Film
Fans are getting their first clear hints about what Magneto will be up to in Avengers: Doomsday. In his most recent AMA, industry insider Alex Perez revealed that when Magneto returns, he will finally have the mutant utopia he always wanted. “When it’s threatened, you know he’ll throw hands to protect it,” Perez said.
Perez was also asked whether the X-Men and the Avengers might fight each other in the movie.
He reassured fans, “I don’t think any X-Men or Avengers will kill each other this time around, at least not intentionally. Maybe the consequences of their actions cause the deaths, but not something directly.”
When asked who will lead X-Men in the upcoming phase of the MCU that will focus primarily on the mutants, Perez said the X-Men team is being led by Cyclops and Jean Grey, working as co-leaders. Perez also mentioned that other well-known mutants like Angel, Beast, Gambit, Rogue, and Nightcrawler could be part of the team.
Avengers: Doomsday will feature a huge cast including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. In the movie, the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men team up to face Doctor Doom, played by Downey.
The film is part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is scheduled for release in the United States on December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Secret Wars, will follow on December 17, 2027.
The production of Doomsday went through several changes. Originally, Destin Daniel Cretton was hired to direct The Kang Dynasty, with Jonathan Majors returning as Kang the Conqueror.
Jeff Loveness joined as writer, but in late 2023 Cretton left the project and Loveness was replaced by Waldron. Majors was also removed from the role due to legal issues. Eventually, the Russo brothers returned as directors, with Markus and McFeely co-writing. Downey was cast as the new villain Doctor Doom, and the movie was retitled Doomsday. Filming began in April at Pinewood Studios in England, included locations in England and Bahrain, and wrapped in September.
The story takes place fourteen months after Thunderbolts*, with the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men teaming up to take on Doctor Doom.
