This story takes Blanc into a tight-knit religious community led by a charming priest named Monsignor Jefferson Wicks. When someone dies under strange circumstances, Blanc must untangle everyone’s secrets and figure out what really happened. It’s described as a mystery filled with pressure, hidden motives and the kind of odd personalities the series is known for.
Early reactions from critics have been strong. On Rotten Tomatoes, 94 percent of 89 reviews are positive, with an average score of 8.2 out of 10.
The website says the movie gives Blanc “a worthy mystery with its genuinely soulful fixation on faith and a scene-stealing Josh O’Connor performance.” Metacritic gives the film an 80 out of 100 based on 24 reviews, calling it “generally favorable.”
Damon Wise from Deadline said it may “be the best one yet” in the franchise, pointing to its more thoughtful and reflective tone.
German critic Dieter Oßwald on Programmkino.de also praised it, saying the movie delivers everything expected from a Knives Out film, including strange characters, great tension, sharp twists and what he described as a brilliant Daniel Craig who brings “effortless cool” to the screen.
With the new trailer now out and critics already speaking highly of it, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about films of 2025.
