Ariana Grande Asks Photographers to Stop Shouting at ‘Wicked’ Premiere
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo showed up together at the New York premiere of Wicked: For Good, but the two stars kept things low-key on the red carpet.
According to People Magazine, they chose not to speak with reporters because Erivo had lost her voice. Universal Pictures told the outlet that this was the only reason they skipped interviews.
The cast walked the carpet with director Jon M. Chu and other actors from the film, including Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh and Ethan Slater. Later on the event livestream, Grande explained the situation again as she held onto Erivo. She said, “I’m not letting her speak. She has to rest her voice!”
Grande also said it felt meaningful to celebrate in New York since it is home to the Gershwin Theatre. Erivo still spoke a little, saying, “It’s really beautiful that we’re finishing here, where it started.”
Grande added more during the livestream, saying, “She’s throat-coating, we’re nourishing the throat. Thank you for understanding. There’s only so much the human body can endure.”
At one point on the carpet, Grande asked photographers to quiet down. The noise was getting loud, and she gently told them to stop shouting, saying it made things calmer.
