DreamWorks Reportedly Developing New ‘Puss in Boots’ Movie
A new Puss in Boots movie may be on the way, according to industry insider Daniel Richtman. He reports that DreamWorks has started early work on another adventure for the famous swashbuckling cat, but there are no story details or creative team confirmations yet.

The news comes after the big success of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the 2022 animated film directed by Joel Crawford. That movie picked up years after Puss was first introduced in Shrek 2.
Antonio Banderas returned as Puss, joined again by Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws. The film also brought in a new cast that included Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, John Mulaney, Wagner Moura, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Anthony Mendez.
In The Last Wish, Puss teams up with Kitty and Perrito to search for the Last Wish so he can get back the lives he has lost. Their journey puts them up against other fairy-tale rivals and a mysterious wolf who has his own reasons for hunting Puss.
The film earned strong reviews and made over $401 million worldwide, which quickly started conversations about a possible third movie.
Not long ago, co-director Joel Crawford spoke to The Playlist about the future of the series. He didn’t confirm anything, but he did talk about how much he loves the characters and how excited he was about the movie’s reception.
Crawford said, “I don’t know what’s going on with anything after this, but it was all this hopeful thing of we love these characters. We believe in this story that we’re telling and we hope that audiences will engage with it and demand more stories, both with the Puss and Boots side and also with Shrek. I feel like I can say based on the world’s reception of it, that it does feel like they’ve said ‘Yes, we want more,’ which I’m so happy about. But honestly, I hope to keep getting to tell stories with all of these characters.”
With Richtman now claiming that another movie is in development, it seems possible that DreamWorks is ready to bring Puss back for more adventures. For now, fans will have to wait for official news, but things are definitely moving.
